At Corsa Orthodontics, we understand that braces are a big step, and a major commitment. We can answer many of your questions at our office in San Jose, California. But we have provided this list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you with some of your initial concerns
Can my child benefit from braces?
It is a good idea to have an orthodontic screening for your child by age seven. Braces can give your child a healthy and straight smile and can correct a number of problems with your child’s jaws and bite. If you would like an orthodontic screening for your child, or your dentist has suggested that it may be time for braces, schedule an appointment at our office.
I’m an adult, so it isn’t it a little late in life for me to be thinking about braces?
Not at all! Many adults opt for braces or other alignment treatments, and we offer different types of braces that can not only give you a more attractive smile but can also help you to eat and speak more effectively. Our treatments can also help you avoid issues such as tooth damage and problems with your gums.
What types of aligners do you offer?
We offer traditional metal braces, clear or ceramic braces and clear aligners. Each type has its own advantages, and after an examination, we can recommend the best type for you.
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an alignment system that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten you smile. The aligners are virtually invisible to other people and can be removed to meals and for brushing. They are made from impressions taken from your teeth and are a convenient, and discreet alternative to traditional braces.
Is Invisalign® only for adults?
No. While many of our Invisalign® patients are adults, we also encourage young people to talk to us about Invisalign Teen®, which can be a great choice if they are active in sports, school activities, or just hanging out with friends.
What are Damon® Braces?
Damon® braces are a very comfortable alternative to traditional braces that are designed to blend in with your smile. They are smaller than traditional braces, have clear brackets, and have a shorter treatment time than traditional braces. We will be happy to tell you more about Damon braces during your visit.
What kind of problems can orthodontics fix?
The most obvious benefit of orthodontics is a straight smile. But when your teeth are in proper alignment, eating and speaking can be easier. Problems such as an overbite or underbite can cause other oral health problems. We can tell you more about how we can improve your smile during your first appointment.
Is life with braces difficult?
You will have to make a few changes to your diet and your brushing and flossing regimen. But don’t worry, we will be happy to explain how to care for your braces, and you will be used to your new routine before you know it!
What if I need more than just braces?
Sometimes, a patient may need more than braces. Jaw surgery, which is also called orthognathic surgery, is used to correct problems with your jaw that affect your appearance or the function of your jaw. While conventional orthodontics can solve many problems, if you have problems eating or speaking, or sleeping, you might benefit from surgery.
What is a TMJ disorder and do I need treatment for it?
TMJ refers to your temporomandibular joint. It is the joint that connects your jaw to your head. That joined can be injured, stressed or misaligned from a trauma to your jaw, stress, or grinding and clenching your teeth. You may need TMJ treatment if you have frequent headaches or jaw pain, or problems opening your jaw or chewing. If you are experiencing problems with your jaw, we will be happy to see you for an examination.
